A doula is a woman who helps women and their families through labor and birth. Doula is a Greek word for “woman’s servant.” Here are some of the statistical changes in a birth that a doula makes.

  • 50% reduction in the cesarean rate
  • 25% shorter labor
  • 60% reduction in epidural requests
  • 40% reduction in oxytocin use
  • 30% reduction in analgesia use
  • 40% reduction in forceps delivery
This information was obtained from Mothering the Mother: How a Doula Can Help You Have a Shorter Easier and Healthier Birth Klaus, Kennell, and Klaus (1993).

I'm willing to support a woman and her family in what ever setting they choose to have their baby-- hospital, birth center or home. As a doula I do not perform clinical tasks, or diagnose medical conditions. I do not make decisions for my clients. My goal is to provide the support and information needed to help the birthing mother have a safe and satisfying birth as the mother defines it.
